A new sightseeing bridge was completed -in Japan - EDO-EPS construction method
``Yokohama Minato Mirai 21'' is a new urban area that is now a major tourist attraction in the port city of Yokohama. This winter, a new pedestrian bridge was built in this area connecting Chuo Ward, where Landmark Tower and Pacifico Yokohama are located, and Shinminato Ward, where the Red Brick Warehouse and Cup Noodles Museum are located, along the waterfront.
Until now, the main route between the two areas was the central Kokusai Avenue, which was a bit inconvenient to cross while walking around the tourist attractions along the river.
The construction of the new Megami Bridge has brought the entire area closer together, and through cooperation with other facilities such as Hammerhead Deck and King Mall Bridge, which are being developed at the same time, the area has become even more bustling.
Since the Goddess Bridge spans a waterway where ships pass through, there is a difference in height between the bridge and the promenade. To eliminate this, slopes of about 50 meters were installed at each end to allow Masu to walk comfortably. EDO-EPS, a lightweight fill material that weighs 1/100 of soil and sand, was used to build this slope. Due to its light weight, EDO-EPS is suitable for building embankments in areas with poor ground conditions, and its self-supporting properties can be easily used to create vertical walls. Construction can be completed quickly using only human power.
