When constructing a road extension through a mountain pass, there are many technical and environmental issues to consider. Here are the main challenges:
1. Risk of landslides and unstable geology
The pass terrain is often steep, the soil and rocks are unstable, and are susceptible to erosion and landslides, especially during the rainy season.
Without appropriate reinforcement solutions, the risk of landslides that pose a danger to structures and road users is very high.
2. Difficulties in construction and transportation of materials
The rugged mountainous terrain limits space for gathering construction materials.
Transportation vehicles have difficulty moving on narrow, winding roads around the mountains.
